June 14, 2018 | Russia – Saudi Arabia

Tournament: World Cup 2018

Pick: Russia to score over 6,5 corner kicks.

Strength: 6/10

Odds: 1.83

Bookmaker: bet365

June stats: 11 won 1 void 1 lost

This is the opening match of the World Cup 2018 years and as everyone knows - Russia are the hosts here. They will try to be active and dangerous in this game, to play offensively, make as many attempts at the Saudi goal as possible and grab a win with two or more goals. Saudi Arabia plays in formation 4-1-4-1 - which is a rather defensive style which means they will be concentrated deep in their half for larger periods of time and will rely heavily on the few chances they will be given on counterattacks. This means that the Russian players will have a lot of chances to shoot from a distance or from static positions like direct free kicks and those can easily be transformed into corners kicks. Given the fact that their best offensive players Glushakov and Kokorin will not play today, they might be forced to try and take something from that game by using their home turf advantage to create more chances from such static plays. In the same time Saudi Arabia will have problems when trying to utilize similar scenarios because some of their more experienced players are unavailable - Hasan Muath (68 games/4 goals), Abdullah Al-Zori (58 games/1 goals) and Mohammad Al-Shalhoub (118 games/19 goals). With all that being said I do believe that there is value in a bet of 7 or more corners for Russia in this match.

Result: 6:2 corner kicks (LOST)
